How to prepare for your medical
A UK CAA Class3 medical is a requirement for all Air Traffic Controllers.
Please bring with you:
Current passport (for all Class 1 medicals)
Recent Medical Certificate
Most recent Opticians report
Copies of any relevant Specialist Medical/GP Reports

How often do I need a Class 3 Medical?
All ATCOs require a medical examination every 2 years prior to the age of 40.
A medical is required every 1 year after the age of 40.

Do I need any other tests?​

The CAA require all ATCOs to have an audiogram (hearing test) every 4 years below the age of 40.
This is then required every 2 years above the age of 40.
Comprehensive eye tests may be required depending on your glasses prescription and other eye conditions.
Pilots develop medical conditions like everyone else. The UK CAA may require some pilots to pursue an onward referral to a Consultant Specialist prior to obtaining a Medical Certificate. This can be arranged with a Specialist of your choice or via Consultants known to us.

ECG (Electrocardiogram) and Cardiology Review

ECGs are tracings of the electrical activity within the heart muscle. ECGs may be required every 4 years (below 30 years), every 2 years (30-40years), every 12 months above the age of 40 years. Sometimes your ECG may need to be reviewed by a Cardiologist. We have established links with cardiologists across the region .
